CMS Products Announces CE Secure DiskVault FIPS Certification
Based on Trusted Computing Group Opal SED Specification
Irvine, Calif. – February 20, 2013  – CMS Products Inc. a leading innovator in encryption, security technology for business, government and military users, today announced the NIST certification of its CE-Secure DiskVault-FIPS product line. The DiskVault-FIPS external USB and Module bay SED storage solutions have been certified to FIPS 140-2 level 2. DiskVault-FIPS solutions are designed to be “management ready” for secure managed environments or operated as a standalone encrypted storage/backup device.  Storage capacities range from 500GB to 4TB and meet the standards from Trusted Computing Group (TCG).
“As businesses look for additional storage, it’s important for data to be highly secured without sacrificing performance,” said Ken Burke, President, CMS Products, Inc. “Data breach is becoming more common and costs businesses millions annually. By encrypting the drive itself, customers can protect their data from intruders without affecting performance.”
The CE Secure DiskVault-FIPS product line integrates Seagate’s world class self-encrypting (SED) Momentus Thin and Enterprise Capacity hard drives. “We choose Seagate as our SED partner because they are innovators and the leaders in hard drive hardware encryption” added Ken Burke.
The Opal standard for SED’s was created by the Trusted Computing Group (TCG), which develops standards for secure computing. The TCG Opal standard is designed to ensure interoperability across vendors, technologies and platforms. While traditional SEDs based on the Opal standard have shipped for several years, this is the first time they have been available as a government grade FIPS certified external solution.
As enterprises make mission-critical data available to employees, they also must consider legal and compliance regulations in their respective industries. “The combined Seagate and CMS offering will provide security-conscious customers with a highly secure, manageable external data protection solution” said Bob Griswold, senior vice president of product line management at Seagate. “External hardware-based encryption and security provides a level of trust and performance not achievable by software encrypted devices. CMS’s new CE-Secure DiskVault – FIPS Edition will help companies ensure that they meet regulatory requirements such as HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley and more.
